    Special Notes:
    --------------

I) Acquiring Images:
	A) The Cyclone requires a large number of resources from the
System to successfully acquire the image.
Please refrain from performing intensive tasks during
the acquisition, as the SCAN MIGHT BE ABORTED
	      if resources are not available.

	   1) Do Not Print while acquiring.

	   2) Must have 80 Meg of Drive Space Free to let an
	       Acquisition begin.
		a) Note: This includes the space required by Windows 95
swap file ( WIN386.SWP )which increases in size as
                                applications are opened.

		b) Note: A 600 DPI Long Carousel Image requires almost
		    60 Meg of drive space.

	   3) Only one User can acquire an image at a time.

	   4) Rotating and Flipping Images:
An error may occur when rotating and flipping large
images when system drive space becomes too small.
Check drive space before starting .

	   5) Generating Template Reports:
If grid template reports get too large, the Swap file
will get excessively large and may stop acquisition .

	   6) Do not open any memory intensive applications while
              acquiring.

	   7) Do not use the CD ROM while acquiring .

	   8) Do not install other software during acquisition .

	   9) Networks:
Do not acquire Cyclone images directly to a network
	       drive.

	   10) Jaz and Zip Drives:
Do not acquire Cyclone images directly to a Jaz or
Zip Drive, time-out errors will result, causing
		 scans to abort.

 II) Reducing Communication Errors:

	A) Power Managers:
Disable Windows 95 Power Managers to prevent Cyclone
Communication Errors when System is inactive.

	   1) Windows 95 4.00.950 and Windows 95 4.00.950 A
		 a) From Control Panel select " Power " icon.

		    this Computer ".
		 f) Select " Apply ".
		 g) Select " Yes " To stop Power Management.
		 h) Select " Yes " To Restart Computer.

            * If no " Power " Icon exists, the Power management is
disabled in the system BIOS -- no action required.

	B) Optimizing Drive Space:
	   1) Archive and delete old files and images .
	   2) Delete *.Tmp files from C:\Windows\Temp directory.
	   3) Empty " Recycle Bin "
		   a) Change Properties of " Recycle Bin ".
			1. Right Click " Recycle Bin " Icon
			2. Select Global.
			3. Move Slider to the left ( 1% ) .
	   4) Scan and Defragment hard drive to regain lost space
and make hard drive access faster .

	C) Disable Screen Savers.

	D) Follow proper power up sequence :
	   1) Turn on Cyclone.
	   2) Turn on Computer.

	E) Note: If power is lost on the Cyclone even when an acquire
is not taking place a Communication error will result.
		a) Will have to shut down and follow the power up
		 sequence.

	F) Close down as many applications as possible before starting
an Acquisition . ( Be sure to wait until Swap file is
	     resized about 10 to 30 seconds ).

	G) System Memory - 32 Meg minimum recommended for good
results. Note: When system memory is used up by
applications Windows 95 will use Drive C: Swap
	    file as virtual memory.
	   	a. If your applications are large add more memory .
		b. Free up Drive Space for Swap file .

	H) Restart the computer before installing or removing any
software applications . This will keep any active
applications from interfering with your operation .
		a. Note : This will require following the power up
sequence for the Cyclone and computer.

III) Video:
For optimal results use these display modes:
	800 X 600 or 1024 X 768
	256 color with Small Fonts.

Large Fonts may produce some cropping at the bottom of
	the display.
640 X 480 may produce some cropping of display.
When using 24 bit or 32 bit color , Image magnification
may get distorted when 6400 % magnification is reached .
To correct this problem demagnify image back to 3200 % .

IV) Iomega Zip Drive:
To prevent possible lock ups while printing an image
from a Zip Drive. Set the " Spool Settings " on HP
Printer Properties to " Start Printing After Last
	Page is Spooled " .

V) Stitching Images:
When stitching creates a resulting image greater than 1
meter in length or width, only the top left 1 meter
	square will be accessible.

VI) Rotating Images:
An error may occur when rotating large images when system
drive space becomes too small. Check drive space before
	rotation of large images.

VII) Rev 1.00 and 2.00 File Compatibility:
A)Image templates and image files which have been saved
in Version 3.00 can not be used in Version 1.00 ,2.00
or 2.50 of OptiQuant. All standalone versions of
OptiQuant should be upgraded to version 3.00.

B)Infrequent problems when opening or saving certain .ANA
files which were created using OptiQuant 1.00 on a
Cyclone. (.ANA files are analysis files associated with
image files with the same filename).
	    - Only files which have no templates defined will show this
	      problem.
	    - The problem can occur in two places:
	    - When opening an image with the corresponding .ANA file.
	    - When performing a Save Template operation on a
	       successfully opened file.
	    - Windows 95 must be restarted when this problem occurs.
	    - If the .ANA file is deleted, the image will always open
	      successfully.
	    - Once the .ANA file has been saved with OQ 3.00, it will
	      always open successfully.

VIII) Image printouts:
	A) HP LaserJet 4000 PCL 6 - Drivers may cause a software lockup.
Use HP LaserJet PCL 5e Drivers only.
Use Control Panel to set HP LaserJet PCL 5e as Default Printer.

	B) Enhanced Printer Drivers:
Printing images in "Landscape" using HP LaserJet 5 Enhanced
Printer Drivers may result in improper print out.
Use HP LaserJet Standard Drivers or print in "Portrait" mode .

IX) Importing certain 8-bit TIFFs:
OptiQuant will always open TIFF files expecting them to
contain quantifiable data. Some 8-bit TIFFs (including
OptiQuant's own exported images) are intended to be used
as visual representations only. These imported files may
not be displayed as expected, especially at the high and
	low intensity values.

X) Lane background subtract:
Computations for background subtraction are slightly
different when background is defined with regions as
compared to backgrounds defined with a baseline. The
baseline method varies as a result of fractions of
pixels at the end of a lane.

XI) Zoom is limited by image size. Crop to create a smaller
	image to zoom in closer.

XII) Cancel button in "instrument detection" dialog box does not
stop detection. It only allows users to perform other tasks
	while diagnostics are in progress.

XIII) Image Overlay contrast may be low when using images with a
	low palette intensity range.

XIV) Infrequent problem may occur when acquisition is finished .
The acquire dialog remains open and appears to be busy.
Use the "X" button on the top right of "Cyclone Control Room"
task bar to close down dialog box.
To start a new acquisition select " Instrument "

XV) Errors with Open Files when removable media is removed:
Be sure to close any files which were saved to or opened from
removable media ( Floppy, Zip Drive or Jaz Drive etc.) before
	removing the media .

XVI) Infrequent problem may occur when an acquisition is taking
place, and a second user tries to access acquisition. When
second user closes the acquisition dialog an error may occur
which closes the second user's session of OptiQuant .
